Over the past 20 years, a huge amount of effort has been placed on producing a functional medium type of animal that thrives in the harsh environment of Zambia. Disease pressures are high with exposure to East coast fever, Heart Water Red water, and Gall Sickness. Weekly dipping in the rains is essential, but through strict selection, and continual performance testing, we are currently producing functional animals that are thriving.

Each batch of calves is subjected to weighing at birth (with their dams), 7 month (with their dams), 12 month, and 18 month weighing. This is to ensure the best producers are identified and kept in the herd, and the bottom producers are seen early and sent to the feedlot.

Only the best bulls are used, and we have sourced genetics from all over the world to ensure that we have a broad, and superior gene pool. All the calves are DNA tested to ensure that no mistakes are made when it comes to Sire evaluation.

The old adage “to measure is to know”, holds very true in cattle breeding, and an enormous amount of time is spent evaluating the herd. The results are now clearly seen with improved weaning weights, decreased frame size, and reduced intercalving period across the whole herd.
